DUI

Canton GA DUI/DWI Lawyers

There are few sights as upsetting as flashing red lights in the rearview mirror when you know you may be over the legal limit. A DUI (driving under the influence) or DWI (driving while impaired) charge is one that can impact you financially for a very long time, in addition to the possibility of facing time in jail. If you are an adult, it can impact your ability to get to work and will raise your insurance rates significantly. If you are a high school or college student, it can get you kicked off a team, cost you a scholarship, and impact your employment opportunities.

Alcohol Testing and Treatment Required

In the case of young adults, the person who pays the legal bills is often not the offender but a friend or family member. In the case of an adult charged with drinking and driving, a spouse may be just as impacted as the individual charged with DUI/DWI. Parents and others may find it reassuring to know that our law firm’s policy is to require abstinence, alcohol testing,  and participation in treatment for the defendants we represent. This accomplishes two objectives:

  • Abstinence, alcohol testing and treatment are viewed favorably by the court.
  • Abstinence, alcohol testing and treatment decrease the likelihood of reoffending.

We believe that people deserve a chance to redeem themselves and learn from their mistakes. Rehabilitation will help you in court as well as in your life.

Protecting Driving Privileges

There are two aspects to a DUI/DWI charge. One is the misdemeanor or felony charge. The second is the automatic license suspension by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

You have 10 days from the date of your arrest to schedule an administrative hearing with the DMV. The DMV hearing will determine whether your driver’s license suspension continues or your driving privileges are reinstated.

Our law firm has good relationships with district attorneys, solicitors, DMV personnel and others. We believe that our respectful relationships with opposing counsel and others help our clients get a favorable view from those who decide cases and outcomes. In addition, we will investigate all facts and circumstances surrounding your DUI/DWI arrest, including how a breath test/Breathalyzer was administered and other field sobriety tests.
